Speech Therapist

Wallarano Primary School provides one full time Speech Therapist who works with individual children, small groups and/or within the classroom setting

The goal of the program is to help students become better communicators, which means becoming better at expressing themselves as well as understanding what other people say to them.

The program is divided into three areas:

  1. Speech: Where students learn how to produce sounds of the English language properly.

  2. Language: Where students expand their vocabulary, learn the correct use of word and sentence structures and improve receptive skills.

  3. Social Skills: Where students learn fundamental skills required to be successful social communicators across all settings and with all speaking partners.

The sessions take place in the speech-language room or in the classroom and depending on the student's needs they are either seen individually or in a group.

All foundation students are screened at the beginning of the year to find out who will benefit from the speech and language program.
