Students study the Italian language and culture. They read and write simple texts and stories in Italian using skills and strategies they have learnt in the classroom and specific language learning strategies. They are involved in some simple speaking and listening activities in Italian including role plays and songs. Italian geography and culture is also linked to topics covered. Students practise their Italian skills using web 2.0 tools, interactive games and iPads. Once a year we have our own Italian Day where students showcase their learning and experience Italian food and culture. On Italian Day the grade six students take food and drink orders in Italian, giving younger children the opportunity to interact in simple Italian.
